The calm before the dog

I had very little experience with dogs growing up. I was aware of the “dog ate my homework” excuse but I always thought it was a joke, not something that actually happened. I learned the truth about five years ago after my family brought Jake home. Jake is a big guy — a lab (English) who hugs like a bear and makes a mess like a toddler.

This is not Jake. This is Jimmy, another very friendly chocolate lab (American) whom I met on a lovely family visit to “The Beach Goats”.

Jimmy ran playfully around the people and goats on the beach. He was clearly at home and enjoying the moment to its fullest.

During a brief moment of rest before Jimmy launched his next game, the mostly cloudless sky was reflected in the calming water.
