Morning Portal

As soon as I saw the portal at MacKenzie’s Brook, I knew I had to witness the sun rise through it.

Watching the world wake up can be thrilling but I’ve always been far too much of a night owl to catch many sunrises.

So, on a Friday night in early September, I set many alarms and tried to go to bed at a reasonable hour. I figured several rounds of annoying sounds and music would be needed to get me going at 4:30am. As it happened, I was ready to leap out of bed just as the first alarm hit. Apparently the anticipation was all I needed.

I took this photo at 6:40am, precisely an hour after taking my first photo that morning. The sun had crested the horizon 20 minutes before and I had been there to capture all of it.

All that remained was rest of the day.
