Seacow Head, named for the walruses that were once abundant in the surrounding waters, is located in Fernwood. The lighthouse was built in 1864 but, like others, needed to be relocated due to shoreline erosion. This one was moved in 1979 to its present location in this photo.
After my visit, while researching the lighthouse, I was tickled to discover that it had appeared in several episodes of the television series “Road to Avonlea” in the 1990s.
The show was something of a family favourite growing up. It was enjoyable enough but for us it was an opportunity to watch my dad’s dear friend Jackie Burroughs, play Hetty King. This history was all but forgotten to me until I took this photo and followed its story down a red dirt path.
