Peace Time

I visited MacKenzie’s Brook on a beautiful early September morning when I knew the tide would be out and I’d be able to get onto the beach.

After I arrived, another photographer appeared. A nice fellow from Toronto who was visiting family on the island. We politely moved along the beach, exchanging quips and remarks as we went, being careful not to get in each other's way.

The small stones, carefully stacked on the rock in this scene were likely placed there recently or they surely would have been washed away during the last high tide. I took them as a sign of the human connection to this natural monument.

The peacefulness of this place was profound but fleeting. The arch, a creation of previous storms, finally fell two months later after being battered by post-tropical storms Fiona and Nicole.
