I took this photo on a quiet, mid-August evening while on a trip to Cabot with Annie. Contrary to the warm glow in this scene, the evenings were getting cooler and this one was no exception.
This scene features the tip of the bluffs along the western side of the beach. The tip roughly points to a reef named “Jerry’s Rock” and I suspect the reef is responsible for the darker streak of water just under the horizon.
The sunset provided a beautiful backdrop that highlighted the astonishing wind-blown coastal trees. These trees play a critical role in holding the crumbling ground together while shielding their neighbours from the harsh winds.
Often they have a flag-bearer. Usually it is the last tree before the water. A tree so exposed that its branches grow in only one direction.
