Dune Tracks

I took this photo on a brilliantly sunny day on my first visit to Greenwich in early September 2022. We took the dune trail through the woods, over the floating walkway crossing Bowley Pond and finally over a large parabolic dune to the beach.

On the beach we found dozens of shore birds going about their day. Some comfortably resting on the warm sand while the others kept watch.

Halfway down the slip face of the dune, on our way back, I saw this beautiful scene. Tall grasses, ablaze in the sun, skirted the base of this perfectly smooth dune. It was only after looking through my zoom lens that I noticed the tracks crisscrossing the top of the dune. I imagine the tracks are a transient feature, regularly erased by the wind and remade anew by the locals.
